EAMA Team for B&I International XC 18 Nov 2017

England Athletics Masters Association invite all runners who qualify to run for England to apply for selection for the above event which will be held in Londonderry, Northern Ireland on Saturday November 18th, 2017.

Race Categories are Women 35 to 70+ and Men 35 to 75+ in 5 year age groups.  The selectors will look at runners performances in 2017 in BMAF and EAMA club races, over 5K and 10K on the road, track and country, as well as in other appropriate races.  BMAF and EAMA events will give the selectors the opportunity to compare performances of runners against each other.

Forms and information regarding the requirements will be available on the EAMA website here and below, and from your Area Representative listed below.

EAMA are, unfortunately, not in a financial position to assist with travelling or hotel expenses. A team vest may be supplied but the rest of the kit required will be need to be supplied by the runner.

Michael Mann of VAC has said that, “Although there are very few direct flights to Derry, Belfast is very well served by air with plenty of cheap flights, and Derry can be easily reached by train from George Best airport and bus from Belfast International.”  A very helpful, useful point.

Selection will take place early in October and all applicants will be informed of the selectors decision as soon after the selection meeting as possible.

BMAF 10k Open Road Race Championships

Well done to the BMAF team (largely I think SCVAC but not exclusively) that managed today’s BMAF 10k Road Race Championships held on the Gravesend Cyclopark in Kent.  Glorious weather (a tad warm for most of us) and a warm welcome from the staff made for a good race.  With representatives from eight area clubs we saw 108 finishers.

The results have been published and are available at :

Alex Rotas – The Lady with the Camera

Alex Rotas, Ambassador for England Athletics and the RunTogether Campaign, also known as the lady with the camera who comes to the BMAF, European and World Masters Athletic Championships, has now added another high profile string to her bow.  She has been chosen by England Athletics as an Ambassador for the campaign that is being launched on Tuesday 10th January 2017. She is being interviewed by SkyTV Sport at 11.30 am on Tuesday.

Alex in the past has produced a beautiful calendar full of photos of athletes aged 60+; a book on Ageing Competitively and whose campaign is to project a positive image of ageing.

We wish her and the campaign every success.

John Holt

A tribute to John Holt, IAAF General Secretary 1976-1991

We are sorry to hear of the passing of the former IAAF General Secretary and Masters athletics supporter, John Holt, at his home in York on 17 November from a heart attack, aged 77.

I got to know him quite well from 1984 when the IAAF was based in London and they started to get involved with World Masters Athletics.  I was the Liaison Officer between the two Bodies as I was on WMA Council at that time and had a meeting with him once a week.  He was a visionary, passionately promoting athletics for all, steering the IAAF to holding a World Championships, World Cup, World Indoor Championships and a World Junior Championships.  He would have also helped to unite Masters with their National Governing Body had he continued post 1991.

Our sincere condolence to his wife Ann and their two sons.
