Alex Rotas – The Lady with the Camera

Alex Rotas, Ambassador for England Athletics and the RunTogether Campaign, also known as the lady with the camera who comes to the BMAF, European and World Masters Athletic Championships, has now added another high profile string to her bow.  She has been chosen by England Athletics as an Ambassador for the campaign that is being launched on Tuesday 10th January 2017. She is being interviewed by SkyTV Sport at 11.30 am on Tuesday.

Alex in the past has produced a beautiful calendar full of photos of athletes aged 60+; a book on Ageing Competitively and whose campaign is to project a positive image of ageing.

We wish her and the campaign every success.

John Holt

A tribute to John Holt, IAAF General Secretary 1976-1991

We are sorry to hear of the passing of the former IAAF General Secretary and Masters athletics supporter, John Holt, at his home in York on 17 November from a heart attack, aged 77.

I got to know him quite well from 1984 when the IAAF was based in London and they started to get involved with World Masters Athletics.  I was the Liaison Officer between the two Bodies as I was on WMA Council at that time and had a meeting with him once a week.  He was a visionary, passionately promoting athletics for all, steering the IAAF to holding a World Championships, World Cup, World Indoor Championships and a World Junior Championships.  He would have also helped to unite Masters with their National Governing Body had he continued post 1991.

Our sincere condolence to his wife Ann and their two sons.

2016 XC International : England Team

The process to select the England team for the XC being held on Sat 12 November 2016 at Glasgow was undertaken at the beginning of October and since then the selectors have been in touch will all those that were initially selected and the planned reserves.  In the intervening time, the team has been refined as prospective runners have confirmed or declined the opportunity to run.  This is always a “dynamic” situation because of injuries and other unplanned conflicts in athletes diaries.

The selectors are now in a position to publicise the proposed team (although we are all too aware that more changes may be forced upon them) as availability alters.  The current list passed to me is appended below.  This will be updated with version control if I receive any further changes.
